Captains Comment
The TVC squad made the long journey to a freezing Staines for our first match of 2010 but came away with our first defeat of the season. The absence of two of our players on their extended Christmas holidays and the strong squad fielded by Staines promised a difficult match and so it proved to be.
First out of the blocks was Sam Sarna on board 2 who disposed of his opponent after barely an hours play but this was about as good as it got all evening. 1-0 to Ealing.
On board 6 Lee Seaman lost a pawn early on and could not recover the situarion, 1-1.
On board 3 Jason Obihara had a solid looking position until well into the middle game before a tactical oversight cost him a piece and checkmate. 1-2 to Staines.
On board 1 Raj Jhooti was at one time the exchange for a pawn up but his 168 rated opponent ovrecame and eventually prevailed. 1-3 to Staines.
On board 5 a series of early exchanges boiled down to a B+4P v opposite coloured B+4P endgame offering no advantage to either player so a draw was eventually agreed. 1.5-3.5 to Staines.
Finally on board 4 David Reichenberg overstretched himself in a good position and paid the price of doing so. 1.5 - 4.5 to Staines.
