Captains Comment
Facing an unbeaten (3.5/4 points) Harrow B team it was clearly vital we got something from the match if we were to maintain our leading position in division 3.
On board 5, Jerry Ball was allowed to play his favourite French Winawer but his opponent adopted a rather cautious line and as neither side could make any headway, a draw was agreed. 0.5-0.5
On board 6 an oversight in the middle game cost me a bishop for a pawn, but in the process of exchanging I was able to open up the g file in front of his castled king and make dangerous threats against his kings rook that had strayed into the area. However my opponent always seemed to have a saving move at the right time and was eventually able to exchange down to a won endgame. 0.5-1.5 to Harrow.
At the call of time the other four games remained unfinished and were adjourned. On board 3 Steve Gibbs has a clearly won game, whilst on board 4 Jason Obihara is in an extremely strong position two pawns up. On board 1 Raj Jhooti has a very even looking game and on board 2 Sam Sarna has a materially even game with a sound position. We are, therefore, hopeful of a winning outcome to the match.
